Kim Tanner named vice president of Institutional Advancement Earlham College

Kim Tanner

Earlham President Anne Houtman has appointed Kim Tanner as vice president of institutional advancement.

Tanner, an Earlham graduate from the Class of 1990, has served as Earlham’s interim vice president of institutional advancement since summer 2019 and has nearly three decades of experience in higher education, all at Earlham. She has previously served as the senior associate vice president for strategic initiatives, associate vice president for institutional advancement, director of alumni relations, director of planned giving, and assistant dean of admissions, among other positions.

“I couldn’t be happier that Kim has agreed to join my cabinet permanently as vice president of institutional advancement,” Houtman said. “Kim is an extraordinary ambassador for Earlham and has a long track record of success with fundraising and engagement with our global alumni community. I am excited to hit the road with her again once the pandemic is past us, visiting our far-flung alumni and other friends of Earlham.”

As interim vice president for institutional advancement, Tanner led an IA team that achieved two straight years of record giving to the College’s annual fund, including a record-breaking Earlham Day in 2020 that raised about $1 million from 3,299 donors. She has also secured numerous major gifts for the College and was the manager of the $68 million Purpose and Passion capital campaign, which supported scholarships, construction of the Center for Science and Technology and other critical needs.

Tanner earned degrees in biology and sport and movement studies from Earlham. She also completed graduate-level coursework at Ball State University while teaching special education at Richmond Community Schools prior to returning to the College in a professional capacity.

“It is no accident that I have spent my professional career working to help my alma mater grow and support the needs of future generations of students,” Tanner said. “I am grateful for Anne’s confidence in me and the opportunity to work with her and my team in institutional advancement. We have a great team and I am excited for what lies ahead for Earlham.”
