Office of Equal Opportunity
Earlham College is a Quaker institution grounded in the belief that every person has inherent worth and dignity. In that spirit, the Office of Equal Opportunity supports a campus environment where all individuals can learn, work, and participate free from discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, hazing, and retaliation.
We are guided by Quaker values—truth, integrity, equality, community, and peace—as well as federal civil rights laws, including Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Our Commitment
We recognize that concerns involving discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct can be complex and deeply personal. In the spirit of Quaker practice, we strive to approach each matter with care, respect, and attention to truth, while ensuring compliance with civil rights obligations and institutional policy.
Our work is grounded in:
- Fair, impartial, and equitable processes
- Consistent application of federal civil rights laws and College policy
- Respect for all individuals involved in a report or complaint
- Protection against retaliation
- Support for access, participation, and inclusion across the campus community

College Policies & Procedures
The Office of Equal Opportunity is committed to fostering a campus environment grounded in equity, inclusion, and compliance through ongoing education and training.
All employees of the campus community are required to complete annual online training assigned and monitored by OEO. In addition to required online training, OEO offers customized training opportunities and welcomes requests for tailored sessions or collaborative programming. Departments and student organizations are also encouraged to develop and host their own educational programs that support these efforts.
To ensure compliance with the Clery Act and to support institutional coordination, OEO asks that any programs, presentations, tabling activities, or events related to Title IX, sexual misconduct, harassment, or discrimination be reviewed and approved by our office in advance.
In alignment with federal regulations, including Title IX requirements, training materials used to prepare OEO and Title IX personnel are publicly posted on the College’s website to ensure transparency and accessibility.
