Earlham College has once again been recognized as one of the nation’s premier institutions of higher education.
In U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” guidebook for 2025, Earlham is ranked as one of the Top 75 national liberal arts colleges. The College also ranks 21st for value, up from 24th the previous year. Best value colleges are noted for ranking highest overall for academic quality relative to the average price paid by students after receiving financial aid.
“We believe that a transformative education, one shaped by our pursuit of doing good in the world, should be accessible to as many students as possible,” Earlham President Paul Sniegowski said. “With 95 percent of our students receiving financial aid and an average cost that is comparable to many public universities, we deliver a return on investment that is unique in higher education.
Now in its 40th year, U.S. News analyzed nearly 1,500 national colleges and universities on up to 17 measures of academic quality to compile its latest guidebook. The rankings place an emphasis on social mobility and outcomes for graduating college students.
“For 40 years, Best Colleges has continued to evolve as a trusted companion to prospective students and their families during the decision-making process,” said LaMont Jones, managing editor for education at U.S. News. “The rankings and editorial content offer crucial data as well as college advice and informed reporting to all who seek a college education.”
Earlham prepares students for post-graduate success through the Epic Journey, a four-year framework that combines excellence in the classroom with future-ready skills development and intensive career coaching. A signature aspect of an Earlham education is the Epic Advantage, a fully funded career-discerning experience worth up to $5,000, including internships, faculty-led research, social innovation projects or international travel that aligns with each students’ vision for a successful future. Eighty-eight percent of recent graduates from the Class of 2023 participated in an internship, with more than 90 percent of them being paid.
Earlhamites are recipients of the Pulitzer Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, the Golden Globe Award, and the Rhodes and Knight-Hennessy scholarships. They include diplomats, doctors, teachers and advocates — and most credit Earlham for influencing their world views and preparing them for diverse and dynamic careers — for good.
Among Earlham’s graduates over the last five years, 91 percent are employed, continuing their education or volunteering within six months.
U.S. News’ rankings are the latest to recognize Earlham’s legacy of excellence in higher education. Earlier this year, The Princeton Review ranked the College for having one of the nation’s best classroom experiences for the ninth straight year, this year ranking 7th among its peers. The Review also ranked Earlham 8th for LGBTQ-friendliness.
