A message from Earlham College’s new president, Paul Sniegowski

Editor’s note: The following is a message from Earlham College President Paul Sniegowski on his first day on the job.

Dear Earlham Friends,

Good morning! On my first day as Earlham’s president, I wanted to send a personal greeting and update. Gail and I arrived last Thursday, the truck with our belongings arrived Friday, and things are beginning to settle into place in the house at 712 College Avenue. Willa, our Golden Retriever, has already decided she really likes early-morning rambles on campus and back campus; she and I met some of you this way over the weekend!

Coming to Earlham marks a return to our native Midwest for us after 27 years on the East Coast: Gail is from Rhinelander, Wisconsin (way up north), and I grew up in South Bend, Indiana. We have Earlham connections. We nearly moved here 20 years ago when I considered joining the Department of Biology, and some of you may remember our son Ben, who graduated from Earlham with a degree in Biology in 2023 and worked in the cafeteria here. Ben has been spending this summer working for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife while our daughter, Emma, remains in New York City working at a green energy communications firm.

Gail, Willa, and I look forward to getting to know the Earlham and Richmond communities much better in the coming weeks. If you see us walking around campus or out shopping, please take a moment to say hello and introduce yourselves; we’ll do likewise. Together, we all have good work to do to support Earlham as a special place where a diversity of people learn to think, explore ideas, and contribute to the world for good.

Sincerely yours,

Paul
