Javanese Gamelan Concert
April 27 @ 7:30 pm
Join us in celebrating twenty years of Javanese gamelan at Earlham. For this concert our students will be joined by guest musicians in highlighting the varied traditional Javanese ensembles we have at Earlham. In addition to performing on the full central Javanese gamelan–consisting of many bronze gongs, metallophones, and other instruments, such as a flute, a bowed lute, a plucked zither, hand drums, and a xylophone–we will also be presenting a piece for gamelan sekatèn (a large, ceremonial bronze ensemble found only in the royal cities of Java and at Earlham), music for the calung (bamboo gamelan), and for larasmadyå (unison choral singing accompanied by frame drums and tubular bells).
