II. Policy Statement
The possession or use on campus of firearms, look-a-like firearms, or other weapons, explosives, and fireworks is forbidden.
Violations may result in criminal prosecution and/or disciplinary action, including but not limited to termination of employment or expulsion. Employees or students may be subject to immediate suspension pending disciplinary action
The prohibition does not apply to law enforcement officers authorized to possess a firearm by the employing law enforcement agency.
III. Definitions
- Firearm– The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device.
- Campus – For the purposes of this policy, campus includes all property owned or managed by Earlham College and Earlham School of Religion.
- Look-alike firearm – The term “look-alike firearm” means any imitation of any original firearm, including toy guns, water guns, replica nonguns, air-soft guns firing nonmetallic projectiles, pellet-firing air guns.
Policy Review and Approval
Revisions to this policy are reviewed by the Associate Vice President for Human Resources, Safety and Risk prior to approval by the President.
