Office of Title IX

The Office of Title IX strives to create a gender equitable and safe environment that progresses beyond compliance and towards a community that embodies equality and safety for all.
All Earlham employees and students can access on-campus and community resources, even without filing a formal Title IX complaint.
Earlham values and upholds the equal dignity of all members of its community, and that includes prohibiting all forms of discrimination and harassment, including sex discrimination, sex-based harassment and retaliation, in its education program and activities.
Earlham’s Title IX Office is a key piece of Earlham’s commitment to a safe campus where students can live and learn without the barriers of sex discrimination and harassment. Working with Public Safety, Student Life and Health and Counseling, the Title IX Coordinator provides immediate support and access to campus resources. They also work with students to determine the best steps for stopping and remedying harm, as well as preventing further harm.
Anyone can report an experience of sex discrimination and sex-based harassment to the Title IX Coordinator at the contact information below. They can also submit an online report using the link (location?).
Earlham provides several confidential resources for those who want to consult about options without informing the Title IX Coordinator, unless the individual asks for the information to be shared. Confidential resources will provide individuals with the appropriate contact information for reporting discrimination allegations and offer options and resources.
These individuals will maintain confidentiality except when there is a serious threat to the health or safety of a complainant, any students, employees, or other persons, or when they are notified of the abuse of a minor, elder, or individual with a disability, or when required to disclose by law or court order.
All other Earlham employees are required to connect individuals who report discrimination and harassment to the Title IX Office, so that all involved parties have equal and immediate access to available resources and support.
Earlham is committed to taking prompt and effective steps to address incidents of discrimination or harassment and to prevent such harm from impacting student and employee access to Earlham’s education programs and activities. The Title IX Coordinator receives all reports and takes appropriate steps to ensure safety measures, address and stop the harm, and prevent sex discrimination or sex-based harassment in Earlham’s education programs or activities.
Earlham offers appropriate and reasonable supportive measures to the Parties upon Notice of alleged discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation. Supportive measures are non-disciplinary, non-punitive individualized services offered as appropriate and reasonably available. They are offered, without fee or charge to the Parties, to restore or preserve access to the Earlham’s education program or activity, including measures designed to protect the safety of all Parties and/or the Earlham’s educational environment and/or to deter discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation.
Earlham will maintain the privacy of supportive measures, only sharing limited information to individuals whom the College determines are necessary to provide supportive measures to parties.
Earlham will act to ensure minimal academic and/or occupational impact on the Parties. Earlham will implement measures in a way that does not unreasonably burden any party.
To ensure compliance with Earlham policies, as well as federal and state civil rights laws and regulations, Earlham has developed internal policies and procedures that provide a prompt, equitable, and impartial process for those involved in an allegation of discrimination or harassment on the basis of sex, and for allegations of retaliation.
Allegations of sex discrimination and sex-based harassment will be addressed through the Discrimination and Harassment Grievance Procedures, which offer safety and supportive measures; equitable resolution processes; and appropriate sanctions and remedies.
