Mike Deibel recognized for leadership and service to National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions 

Earlham College’s Mike Deibel was presented the Frank Whitehouse Jr. Award during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Biennial National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions National Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, in July. The award recognizes extraordinary dedication and sustained service to the organization and is presented to members whose leadership and advocacy have made lasting contributions to the organization. 

At Earlham, Deibel serves as senior associate vice president of strategic financial research, professor of chemistry, and pre-health adviser. For decades, he has helped hundreds of Earlham students navigate the path to careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and other health professions, while also contributing to NAAHP’s national leadership on pre-health advising best practices. 

As a professor and pre-health adviser, Deibel has played a central role in building the College’s national reputation for excellence in preparing students for careers in the health professions. Earlham graduates are accepted to medical school at approximately twice the national average, reflecting the College’s distinctive combination of rigorous academics, personalized advising, and funding for every student to participate in a career-focused experience before graduation. 

The Frank Whitehouse, Jr. Award is among NAAHP’s most prestigious recognitions. Recipients are selected by the association’s Board of Directors based on a sustained record of service, leadership, advocacy, and measurable impact on the organization and the profession. 

“Having worked closely with Mike over the past seven years, I have seen firsthand the thoughtfulness, integrity, and steady leadership he brings to NAAHP,” said Tony Wynne, executive director of the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions. “He has been a trusted colleague and a generous mentor whose service has strengthened both our association and the profession as a whole. I am personally delighted to see Mike receive the Frank Whitehouse Jr. Award.” 

Deibel’s service to NAAHP spans nearly two decades and includes many of the organization’s most significant leadership positions. He served as immediate past president (2022–24), president (2020–22), president-elect (2018–20), treasurer (2014–18) and assistant treasurer (2010–14). From 2010 to 2024, he also served on the NAAHP Board of Directors and its Finance and Executive, Governance and Technology committees. 

Beyond the organization, Deibel represented NAAHP as its liaison to the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Committee on Admissions from 2020 to 2024 and previously served as liaison to the American Dental Education Association from 2018 to 2020. He has also taught multiple NAAHP LEADS professional development modules, helping prepare the next generation of pre-health advisers nationwide.
