Alumni Event Opportunity: Hiking Hadrian’s Wall

2026 Alumni Trip
Trip Overview
Spend six days hiking the best of Hadrian’s Wall Path, the most scenic 55 miles of the path that follows the remains of the ancient Roman wall constructed by the emperor Hadrian in 122 CE. We will walk an average of nine miles per day with light day packs rather than full backpacks, and our evenings will be spent in picturesque bed & breakfasts in the English countryside. On the way we’ll learn about the history of Roman Britain as we encounter its footprints tucked within churches, amidst rolling hills, and alongside lambing sheep. We will begin and end our trip in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, where we will meet up with the 2026 Epic Advantage students who will have just completed their own hike of Hadrian’s Wall Path. While there, we will have the opportunity to explore Edinburgh castle, the National Museum of Scotland, and to enjoy world-class food along the Royal Mile.
Trip Cost
We estimate the following trip costs (we will know more when we begin booking):
- Sharing a double room for all 12 nights: $3500
- Having your own room for the 4 nights in Edinburgh: $4000
This estimate does not include air travel, but does include hotel reservations, entrance tickets, and in-country transit, and a $50 per diem for meals.
Trip Highlights
We will hikeabout nine miles per day. The longest day is twelve miles. The shortest is five. We partner with a local company who will bring take our bags each morning and drop them at that evening’s bed & breakfast, leaving us free to walk largely unencumbered through the English countryside. We will see the most intact portions of Hadrian’s Wall, Arthur’s Seat, the Vindolanda Roman Fort, a temple of Mithras, Lanercost Priory, and more turrets & milecastles than you can count. There will be museums a’ plenty, snack busses, glorious vistas and maybe – if we are very lucky – peacocks.
