Honors Scholarship

Earlham’s Honors Program is a diverse and vibrant community of scholars who demonstrate a combination of motivation, curiosity, and an interest in their fellow human beings.

Scholarship Amount

This scholarship awards $1,000 per year, renewable for up to four years.

Eligibility

Students must be accepted and enrolled at Earlham College as part of the fall entering class. Students must also be invited to — and accept your invitation into — Earlham’s Honors Program.

Selection Process

Students are chosen by Honors Program faculty based on a project that is presented in-person during Earlham’s Scholarship Day.

This year’s project is titled Teach Us Something in Five Minutes or Less. How you teach us something is up to you. You can write an article, or record a podcast, video, or song. You can develop a game, or a software tutorial, or a piece of performance art. All that matters is that we can experience it – whatever it is – in five minutes (or less).

An excellent project will promise to improve the lives of other human beings, in a way that demonstrates some aspect of your technical excellence. It will also demonstrate:

  • your strengths as a leader and collaborator, as well as your motivation,
  • and evidence of your planning, creativity, and intentionally seeking out meaningful challenges.

You will have an opportunity to describe how your project works, the process by which you designed and created it, and to answer questions about it.

Virtual attendance may be available for international students and, in limited cases, for domestic students unable to travel to campus.

Renewal Criteria

To remain eligible, you must participate in the first-year Honors seminar (HONR 150) during the fall semester, and maintain a 3.4 GPA.

INspire Earlham Program Eligible Students

If you receive funds from the INspire Earlham Program, you are welcome to apply for this scholarship. Please note, you will not be eligible for additional funding that exceeds full tuition awarded by the INspire Earlham.  However, being selected as a scholarship recipient is a distinguished recognition — one that celebrates your achievements, strengthens your résumé, and connects you with a community of talented and engaged scholars.

International Students

You are eligible for this scholarship! Please note, receiving a scholarship does not reduce the financial contribution required of international applicants toward their Earlham education. While these scholarships will not impact your financial aid award, being selected as a scholarship recipient is a distinguished recognition — one that celebrates your achievements, strengthens your résumé, and connects you with a community of talented and engaged scholars. You will be able to interview or audition for scholarships virtually if needed.
