Wilderness Program 50th Anniversary
2021 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Earlham Wilderness Program, now known as the EC Outdoor Education Program. The Wilderness Program was started in 1971 by a small group of Earlham faculty members dedicated to the value of experiential education. You can join the celebration!

Share your story!
We are compiling a book of Wilderness and Outdoor Education history and alumni experiences. We welcome your contribution! We are looking for stories of personal growth and discovery during Earlham Wilderness and Outdoor Education programs, whether it was an epiphany during an afternoon of the ropes course or a funny moment on trail. Share your story by clicking on the link below or by posting it to the Facebook group “Earlham College Wilderness (Past and Present).” The book will be available for purchase by Homecoming 2021.
Alumni Trips
Create new memories by heading outdoors with fellow alumni! Check out the offerings below and reach out to the trip coordinators for more details. Don’t see something that fits your schedule/fitness level/budget? Plan your own trip! (See below.) Trip offerings will be updated as trip plans are submitted.

Plan a trip
Organize a trip for your fellow alumni! Fill out the form below to share details about where and when to meet and what supplies and equipment to bring. Day hikes, weekend paddles, extended wilderness expeditions—we’re looking to offer the whole range! We’d love to have trips in all parts of the country (and maybe even the world) and YOU can make that possible! What better way to meet up with fellow alumni than on an outdoor trip?
Share the adventure!
Use #EarlhamWilderness50 on social media to share your plans and post photos from your trips. Join the Facebook group “Earlham College Wilderness (Past and Present)” to stay connected, and we hope to see you at Homecoming!
