Earlham College earns continued recognition as one of the world’s ‘best and most interesting’ colleges

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2023 has once again included Earlham among the nation’s “best and most interesting” institutions of higher education.

“I’m delighted that Fiske has recognized Earlham’s distinctive approach to connecting students’ academic, career and co-curricular interests,” Earlham President Anne Houtman said. “Through our Epic Journey program, every student embarks on an experience of their own design that combines our strengths in classroom teaching with outstanding career-focused opportunities.”

The Fiske Guide pointed to Earlham’s commitment to career preparation, including the Epic Advantage, which guarantees funding for every student to participate in an internship, research experience or community-based project before graduation.

“Professors at Earlham are clear in what they expect from students and help as much as they can,” one Earlham student told Fiske.

Student testimonials published in the guide also underscore an appreciation for the College’s Quaker values of respect for persons, integrity, community, and peace and justice.

“At Earlham, everyone is rooting for you and working with you to dream bigger and then achieve those dreams,” one student shared with Fiske. “Earlhamites come at all of their endeavors with their whole hearts,” said another.

The guide, now in its 39th year, is named after Edward Fiske, a longtime editor of the New York Times. It features profiles of 300 four-year public and private institutions in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland. Each profile includes a list of popular majors, information about financial aid, and quotes from current and former students.

In addition to Fiske, Earlham is featured annually in the nation’s top resource guides for college-bound students and their families. In the Princeton Review’s Best 387 Colleges, Earlham is recognized for its long and distinguished history as a leader in teaching and classroom experience. The U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” guidebook names Earlham one of the nation’s best schools for academic excellence, value, innovation, study abroad opportunities and a commitment to undergraduate teaching.
