Javanese Gamelan Fall Concert 

The Javanese Gamelan Ensemble will perform a mix of traditional and modern pieces from central Java, joined by musicians from the Chicago group Friends of the Gamelan (FROG). In addition to the gamelan itself (a large ensemble consisting mostly of visually stunning bronze gongs and metallophones, tuned to non-Western scales), the santiswaran ensemble (unison choral singing with frame drums and a pair of tubular bells called kemanak) will also be featured.
