Earlham in Hard Times, 1942-1952: Some Possible Lessons for Today
December 3 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

Tom Hamm, emeritus professor of history and Quaker scholar in residence, will deliver the inaugural lecture in the Tom Hamm Annual Lecture Series in History at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in Ronald Gallery, Lilly Library. Join Tom as he takes a look back at events from 1942-1952, when Earlham navigated national turmoil — from admitting Japanese American students during WWII, to supporting conscientious draft resisters in the early Cold War, to facing federal scrutiny over a Chinese student accused of communist sympathies. This history offers timely lessons for today. Sponsored by the Department of History, Academic Affairs, and the President’s Office.
