How did Earlham help prepare you for your current career?

“I work for a student travel company (Walking Tree Travel) that sends high schoolers to 20+ countries around the world. Through experiential educational programs we provide students with opportunities to cultivate positive, sustainable change in the world. I hold a multitude of positions at my company (Marketing Director, Technology Director, and Flight Director) that require a vast array of skillsets. The interdisciplinary approach to education at Earlham taught me that you don’t need to silo yourself to one field or interest but that they work in conjunction with one another. I feel a deep connection between our programs and what Earlham has taught me. Beyond learning from peers around the globe (and having our students do the same), EC taught us how to question and be critical about what we do, how we do it, and how can it be done better. This has helped us develop opportunities on our programs to help students understand the impact they can have when cultural understanding, personal, and social responsibility come together in their travels. Through curriculum development, discussions, activities, and even solo reflection time (moment of silence, anyone?) I’ve been able to see our students’ minds shift and flourish. In these moments I’m reminded of my experience at Earlham and how it helped me grow into who I am today.”

Why do you volunteer for the college?

“To give back to a community that taught me so much and for opportunities to connect with Earlhamites.”

Favorite Earlham memory?

“Spending hours on The Heart with friends – all day and every day.”
