New Student Orientation

Welcome to your guide to New Student Orientation (NSO) at Earlham! As you begin your Earlham journey, our NSO staff are dedicated to helping you get acquainted with the people, places and services that will help you on your path to graduation.

Fall 2025 New Student Orientation will be:

Aug. 2025 (date TBD) for international students

• Saturday, Aug. 16 for domestic students

NSO 2024 Schedules

The official NSO 2024 schedule is ready—which means it’s time to get your packing list together!

Below, you can find the full NSO schedule. Please note that international students begin orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and domestic students begin orientation on Saturday, Aug. 17.

International Student Orientation

Wednesday, Aug. 14 – Friday, Aug. 16

9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Airport shuttles for unaccompanied students

We will help arrange a ride to campus and lunch for students flying alone.

 

1 – 4 p.m.
Arrival and move-in
Student Life Office, Earlham Hall

Check in with the Student Life Office on the main floor of Earlham Hall to obtain the International NSO schedule and gain access to the residence halls. NSO leaders will be available to help you with move-in during this time.

 

3 – 4 p.m.
Campus tour
Admission Office, Tyler Hall

Take a break from unpacking to join one of our regularly scheduled admissions tours. Learn your way around campus and hear about Earlham from the perspective of a current student.

 

4 – 5:30 p.m.

Get to know other international students beginning their first semester at Earlham. NSO student leaders will help you learn about Earlham College and what to do before classes start.

When moving to a new place, it’s natural to experience adjustment issues and homesickness. Learn about strategies you can employ and resources available to you with one of our counselors.

Cultural norms vary from place to place. Discuss cultural norms around race, gender, sexuality, etc, and how to best adjust from one cultural lens to another.

What are your banking options? How do you set up phone service? How do you travel around Richmond or back and forth to airports? This session will help answer all of your questions about living in a new place.

  • Quaker Luncheon: Friends Room A&B, Dining Hall
    • Join us at the Quaker Luncheon. a special event designed for Quaker students, their families, and individuals interested in exploring Quaker-related programs, worship meetings, and other opportunities available at Earlham College and in Richmond. This luncheon will provide a platform for engaging in conversations and fostering connections within the Quaker community.

Brief presentation for parents wanting guidance on transitioning to a new normal of their student being out of the home and away at college. A two-person team of highly trained educators takes the audience on an interactive, relevant, and often hilarious exploration of the cultural messaging we receive about gender, sexuality, sexual health and intimate relationships. Getting here?

First things first—let’s get you to campus! Earlham is located on National Road 40, not far from I-70. We are in the Eastern Time Zone.

Flying?

Richmond is situated near three international airports, including Dayton, Indianapolis and Cincinnati. If you will need transportation from the airport to Earlham, please consider flying into Dayton so you can catch one of our provided shuttles or arrange for a charter van.

If you plan to send baggage and parcels ahead, please send them directly to Earlham College at the following address, labeled with your name:
