New Student Orientation

Welcome to your guide to New Student Orientation (NSO) at Earlham! As you begin your Earlham journey, our NSO staff are dedicated to helping you get acquainted with the people, places and services that will help you on your path to graduation.

Fall 2025 New Student Orientation (NSO) will be:

Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, for international students

• Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, for domestic students

When moving to a new place, it’s natural to experience adjustment issues and homesickness. Learn about strategies you can employ and resources available to you with one of our counselors.

Cultural norms vary from place to place. Discuss cultural norms around race, gender, sexuality, etc, and how to best adjust from one cultural lens to another.

What are your banking options? How do you set up phone service? How do you travel around Richmond or back and forth to airports? This session will help answer all of your questions about living in a new place.

All new residential students must first check in at the Athletics and Wellness Center to obtain the New Student Orientation schedule and access the residence halls. Residential students arriving after 11 a.m. should report to the Student Life Office on the main floor of Earlham Hall to begin the registration process.

NSO Leaders are current Earlham students who will facilitate introductions for their groups as well as share expectations and answer questions about New Student Orientation.

Parent Engagement – Creating a New normal

Lingle Hall/CVPA

Brief presentation for parents wanting guidance on transitioning to a new normal of their student being out of the home and away at college. Representatives from Health & Counseling and Public Safety will be present and be available for questions after the presentation. Resource materials will be provided.

Title IX – Sex Signals

Goddard Auditorium, Carpenter Hall

A two-person team of highly trained educators takes the audience on an interactive, relevant, and often hilarious exploration of the cultural messaging we receive about gender, sexuality, sexual health, and intimate relationships. It examines what roles culture and privilege play in justifying unhealthy and dangerous beliefs about what is acceptable social and sexual behavior.

Learn how to get involved with theatre at Earlham during this Theatre Arts Open House co-hosted by the Department of Theatre Arts and the Earlham Theatre Company. This casual gathering provides an opportunity to learn about upcoming field trips, auditions, workshops, short-term student-led projects, main stage performances, theatre classes, and student employment opportunities. Getting here?

First things first—let’s get you to campus! Earlham is located on National Road 40, not far from I-70. We are in the Eastern Time Zone.

Flying?

Richmond is situated near three international airports, including Dayton, Indianapolis and Cincinnati. If you will need transportation from the airport to Earlham, please consider flying into Dayton so you can catch one of our provided shuttles or arrange for a charter van.

If you plan to send baggage and parcels ahead, please send them directly to Earlham College at the following address, labeled with your name:
