Earlham College Head volleyball coach named to national ’30 under 30′ list

Earlham College Head Volleyball Coach Lauren Horton has been named to the 2021 class of American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 30 Under 30 Award honorees.

Begun in 2009, the AVCA 30 Under 30 Awards recognizes 30 up-and-coming volleyball coaches at all levels of the game.

Horton recently completed her sixth season at the helm of Earlham Volleyball, and has a career overall record of 77-74. She guided the Quakers to their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament berths in 2018 and 2019, including a conference tournament runner-up finish in 2019. Earlham posted an 11-6 overall record in the recently completed Spring 2021 season, including a 6-3 mark in HCAC matches.

Horton was named the HCAC Coach of the Year in 2018. Under her tutelage, Earlham Volleyball players have earned 21 all-conference awards including eight First Team All-HCAC honors.

“I am absolutely honored to have been chosen for the award,” said Horton. “This profession is competitive and heartbreaking all at the same time, which is what got me hooked. I’ve enjoyed each day of it and look forward to the milestones ahead. Many thanks go out to all my coaching friends, mentors, and peers as you all have shaped me to become the coach I am today.”

Horton also serves as Earlham Athletics’ senior woman administrator, and was recently promoted to associate athletics director.

Horton is one of five individuals from a Division III institution recognized in this year’s 30 Under 30 Awards, and one of only two currently working in the state of Indiana. Joining Horton from the Hoosier state is Roncalli High School’s Nicholas Jennings, who serves as Roncalli’s junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach.
