Why do you teach at Earlham?
As a two-time Earlham alumna myself, I have always believed in the power of Earlhamites as world-changers.
I love that I get to develop educators to be leaders in their communities who model outstanding educational practices and who prepare children, teens, and young adults to be socially active and morally conscious citizens. The M.A.T. and M.Ed. programs are grounded in Quaker practices such as cooperative community, the pursuit of an openness to truth, respect for consciences of others, and a commitment to equity– which are all values that are important to me personally. Embedded in many courses throughout the program are theory and practice of trauma-informed teaching, culturally sustaining pedagogy, funds of knowledge pedagogy, structural equity in education advocacy, and relationship-centered teaching. I feel privileged to lead such a program and work with students and colleagues who are committed to working towards a better world.
