Parlor Doughnuts, the first of four tenants to occupy the Earlham Commons shopping center, opens its doors to the public this week.

Two grand opening celebrations for the doughnut and specialty coffee company are set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9. The store occupies the eastern anchor of Earlham Commons at 533 National Road W.

“After years of anticipation and planning, we are thrilled to celebrate the opening of Parlor Doughnuts and welcome our new neighbors to campus,” said Earlham President Anne Houtman. “This is the beginning of a destination for dining and shopping on the West Side that benefits Earlham and our neighbors in Richmond. We are thrilled to contribute to the growth and development of our community.”

Parlor Doughnuts, which opened its first store in Evansville, Indiana, in 2019, now operates 48 locations in 13 states. The company offers 20 flavors of its famous layered doughnuts, including favorites like sandy beach (vanilla with cinnamon sugar), French toast and maple bacon, as well as creative flavor combinations like raspberry pistachio and turtle cheesecake. The company also serves artisan breakfast items and acai bowls with several vegan-, gluten- and keto-friendly items.

The Earlham Commons Parlor Doughnuts location is owned by Richmond natives Mike and Heidi Gross and Del DeMao.

“We’re thrilled to introduce an exciting new concept to our beloved hometown of Richmond, particularly on the scenic West Side near Earlham College and Richmond High School,” DeMao said.

Parlor Doughnuts will open for regular business hours on Tuesday, June 11. The store will be open 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Earlham Commons is the result of a partnership between Earlham College and StampD Development. DeMao and Dan Stamper are the co-owners of StampD Development and are the developers of Earlham Commons. DeMao is also the owner of DeMao Retail, which is leasing the building from Earlham College. Stamper, the owner of Thor Construction and Carroll Electric, is the project builder.

The next to open at Earlham Commons will be Roots Bistro, farm-to-table restaurant and tap room. Two additional tenants will be announced later this year.
