Kiyomi Johnson is excited to move back to New York City after graduating from Earlham College to start her career as a special events associate with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. She’s excited to pursue this new path, but the museum studies major admits it was an unexpected pivot.

Most of Johnson’s academic career at Earlham College has been STEM focused. Her major has a biology focus. She interned with Smithsonian Environmental Research Center three different times and she even worked with Joseph Moore Museum, Earlham College’s natural history museum, for two years.

But she’s always loved the arts and has worked with and started various organizations on campus growing her skillset in event planning, advocacy and leadership.

“My career path has taken twists and turns, and Earlham has supported me in trying everything,” she said. “I’ve had so many different opportunities to try different things that I wouldn’t have had elsewhere.”
