Earlham College intends to offer in-person living and learning for students this fall after the College successfully resumed in-person classes and intercollegiate athletics in the current academic year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The College will continue to observe guidance from the CDC along with local and state officials to ensure the safest environment for students and employees as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Related link: COVID-19 FAQ, special policies<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cWe have been successful in keeping our doors open for students this year because of our care for one another and demonstrating our commitment to reducing the spread of COVID-19 by testing regularly, social distancing, wearing masks and avoiding large gatherings,\u201d President Anne Houtman said. \u201cThis decision has only been bolstered by recent announcements from the White House that a vaccine will be available to every adult who wants one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Classes will begin on Aug. 9, earlier than usual, allowing for an extended winter break and a virtual January term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStudents and faculty have expressed appreciation for the current academic calendar which kept students and faculty off campus at the height of flu season and introduced new virtual learning opportunities for students interested in maintaining their educational pursuits during the extended winter break,\u201d Houtman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cases of COVID-19 have been minimal during the current academic year. Students and employees were required to be tested four times throughout the term and offered the opportunity to test before returning home. Campus has remained closed to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Intercollegiate athletics resumed this spring with extensive testing and safety protocols in place, which exceeded what was required for the general campus population. The College is also committed to resuming special learning opportunities for individual students this summer, including research, field work and internships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
