Earlham College is offering a new scholarship to students of Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce members.

The Earlham College Hometown Scholarship is worth $4,000 over four years and will be offered to eligible students beginning with the fall 2021 entering class. Earlham also offers between $20,000 and $30,000 in merit-based scholarships for eligible students, making tuition comparable to the cost of a public university when combined with other forms of financial aid.

“We are pleased to partner with the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce to offer this new scholarship to students from across region,” said Kim Tanner, Earlham vice president for institutional advancement and Chamber board member. “Together, we can provide a transformative education to our closest neighbors, strengthen the future workforce, and make our region an even better place to live.”

The Chamber has more than 500 members and the scholarship is open to students of any of their employees—even those living outside of Wayne County.

“We always want to offer our members something special, so this scholarship is a true win-win for our members and our region,” said Melissa Vance, the CEO of the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our members have employees living in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Indianapolis, making this scholarship a powerful tool to attracting students to Wayne County and contributing to our success as a community.”

The scholarship is the latest initiative offered by Earlham to create stronger relationships with its neighbors and make an Earlham education as affordable as possible.

Earlham also offers the Heartland Region Scholarship, an $8,000 scholarship over four years that is automatically awarded to anyone living within a 150-mile radius of campus with an offer for admission.

Graduates of Ivy Tech Community College, which has campuses across Indiana, can also transfer to Earlham and earn a bachelor’s degree in as little as two years as part of a historic partnership reached earlier this year. The transfer agreement is available in six popular courses of study, including biology, chemistry, computer science, global management, psychology, or social services.

“Wayne County is a tremendous place to learn and grow,” Earlham President Anne Houtman said. “This scholarship adds to our capacity to broaden the path to an Earlham education, and support even more outstanding scholars from our own backyard in their pursuit of a world-class education.”

In an effort to also widen its reach, nine online courses are being offered this summer to current students and, for the first time, Earlham alumni and the general public.
