2019 First-Year Student Registration and Advising Plan

June 19-June 21: All students placed in Earlham Seminar sections according to their submitted preference forms and assigned to academic advisers based on their interest and/or ES section.

By June 19: Incoming students completed initial online language placement and mathematics self-assessment, and were scheduled to meet with a course registration adviser if they submitted a registration contact preference form. Course selection information resources were available online.

July 24-28: Summer course Registration! Students met online or by phone with their assigned course registration adviser and completed their initial registration for fall courses.

August 15: Day 2 of Faculty Retreat will feature expanded information about advising.

August 16: Advisers will meet with their first-year students and parents.

August 19, morning: Advisers meet first-year academic advisees for individual appointments. During this time advisers will:

  • Confirm the student’s registration: Do changes need to be made? If a student has not completed summer course registration, help them build a suitable schedule using the course-planning tool. Each student’s ES will be already entered in the schedule and will not be changed. Please note that some sections have an additional Friday 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. lab. Students placed into ELL will attend that course instead of an ES1; that should already be entered in their schedule.
  • Get to know the student! Point out relevant resources or possible curricular or co-curricular activities that may be of interest.
  • Registration will re-open in the afternoon at 3:00 p.m. for first-year students. Any changes to a student’s registration can be completed at that time (or during the first 5 days of the semester).

August 20: Enrollment confirmation. Students with advising questions can seek help at the Advising table. Registration will re-open in the afternoon at 3:00 p.m. for second-year students and above. Any changes to a student’s registration can be completed at that time (or during the first 5 days of the semester).

August 21: First Day of classes and Advising Wednesday!  Advisers should plan to attend Advising Wednesday activities throughout the year.
