A call for prayers, silent reflection, in honor of George Floyd

May 30, 2020

The following is an e-mail to the campus community from President Anne Houtman and Dean of Students Bonita Washington-Lacey on Saturday, May 30.

Dear, dear friends,

We write to ask you to join us at 8 p.m. tonight for silent reflection and prayer in honor of George Floyd's life, and the lives of so many — too many — of our Black brothers and sisters.

At such a terrible time, we want to remind all Earlhamites that this community is founded and grounded on the fundamental belief in respect for all persons, or in Quaker parlance "that of God in everyone". Acts of racism and violence, overt or subtle, have no place in our living and learning community and will not be tolerated.

You are in our hearts always, and in our thoughts and prayers tonight at 8:00 p.m. as we reflect on the too-short life taken from George Floyd.

Holding you in the light,

Anne and Bonita
