Are you a future Earlhamite? Application for fall 2021 open now

August 01, 2020

The application for admission to Earlham College in fall 2021 is now open.

College-bound high school seniors and transfer students may apply for admission by completing either the Common Application or the Earlham application. Students applying for need-based financial aid can submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) starting Oct. 1.International applicants should submit the International Student Financial Aid Application.

The deadline for early decision applicants is Dec. 1, 2020 with admission decisions expected by Dec. 15, 2020. The deadline for accepting an early decision offer and submitting a deposit is March 15, 2021.

Why apply as an early decision applicant? Eligible early decision applicants may be invited to Earlham’s special scholarship day in February with the opportunity to compete for additional scholarships. This is an “invitation only” event where attendees come to campus from around the world to engage with faculty and interview or audition for talent and interest-based scholarships in art, community service and engagement, diversity leadership, music, and theatre arts. Typically held on campus, the COVID-19 pandemic may necessitate holding some or all of these scholarship day interviews and auditions virtually.

Students accepted as early decision applicants are not required to withdraw their applications from other colleges and universities. This non-binding approach gives students the ability to make a more informed decision.

“We believe that students have the right to weigh all of their college choice options and decide on enrolling when they have all the information they need to make an informed choice,” said David Hawsey, Earlham vice president of enrollment management. “This includes having an acceptance decision along with a financial aid package or a reasonable estimate at the time of admission.

“Choosing to be an early decision applicant assumes the student has explored all the features and benefits of our academic, co-curricular, student life, career and graduate school advising and housing options,” he said. “If you are confident Earlham is the college for you early in your senior year, we encourage you to choose this option.”

Earlham responds to regular decision applicants within three business days of receiving all required materials. The deadline to apply for regular decision is March 1 and deposits are due by May 1, 2021.

To be considered for admission, students must submit an application, essay, school report or recommendation letter from a teacher or counselor and a high school transcript. Standardized test scores are optional. Earlham’s test-optional policy includes three exceptions: International students, students graduating from home school programs, and those receiving GEDs.
