Diversity and Inclusion

A key component of an Earlham education is learning to embrace diversity and growing to think in terms of multiple perspectives and viewpoints. Development of this co-curricular goal is most clearly seen in statements, policies, aspirations, administrative support for diversity as well as in activities and programs.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) serves as a resource for students who have been historically disenfranchised from higher education, as well as faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. The ODI works to provide structures that are necessary to support Earlham’s commitment to a diverse social and liberal arts environment.]

Earlham’s Diversity Aspirations Statement emphasizes our efforts as a learning community “to create social justice” and “to treat all humans with respect, honoring human dignity.” In line with the Diversity Aspirations Statement, the ODI works to support marginalized communities which can include: people of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and asexual (LGBTQIA) communities, low-income, undocumented, international, differently abled and first-generation college students. 

The ODI collaborates with the entire Earlham campus community — faculty, students and staff members — to educate and encourage accountability and action toward creating a respectful campus environment for all. The ODI also provides resources, education and workshops for those generally interested in issues of diversity, inclusivity and social justice.
