Wilderness First Responder

wfr_zoeCreated to provide outdoor leaders with the knowledge needed to deal with crises in remote settings, WFR is an 80-hour certification course that meets all DOT national standards for First Responder with additional protocols for extended care situations. The curriculum includes protocols for patient assessment, extended care, and wilderness rescue. (2 credits)  

For Credit Application: to apply for WFR for credit, register during Spring course registration or contact the Registrar's office. Please note that the WFA/WFR Recertify course is not credit eligible.

General Application: to apply outside of college registration (i.e. for no credit) please use our EVENTBRITE site (coming soon). Email wilderness@earlham.edu for a discount code if you are an Earlham affiliate.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) takes place during the first 10 days of May Term and is taught by Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO), a globally recognized wilderness medicine school.  New participants can receive their WFR certification and past participants can re-certify during the first 2 wfr_umblesdays of the course.

WFA/WFR-recert + CPR: May 10-11, 2021
Cost: $235
Cost for Earlham affiliate: $195

Full WFR + CPR: May 10-18, 2021
Cost: $645
Cost for Earlham affiliate: $595

All course days will begin at 8 am and end around 5 pm.
