September 12, 2017
Continued recognition for Earlham as one of the nation’s top institutions in higher education comes from U.S. News and World Report and its “Best Colleges 2018” guidebook.
In addition to receiving high marks for excellence in undergraduate education, U.S. News ranks Earlham in the Top 5 among all liberal arts colleges for having the highest percentage of international students on campus. Twenty-three percent of the college’s student body is from overseas, with students representing about 60 different countries.
“Earlham is an educational community where distinctive perspectives and extraordinary creativity come together in remarkable ways,” Earlham President Alan Price says. “At Earlham, we are committed to maintaining an environment where students from all backgrounds thrive and grow in ways they never thought existed.”
U.S. News’ rankings are based on several key measures of quality, including graduation and retention rates (22.5 percent), assessments from academic peers and guidance counselors (22.5), faculty resources (20), student selectivity (12.5), financial resources (10), graduation rate performance (7.5) and alumni giving (5 percent).
Earlham is a national leader for the liberal arts where collaboration, communication and creativity combine to offer students the kind of professional skills most valued in the 21st Century. Through research, off-campus study, service and entrepreneurship, Earlham helps students uncover their academic passions with their career plans into a coherent and cohesive plan that helps them make the most out of their education. The addition of the EPIC Advantage offers a funded internship or research for all interested students before graduation.
This recognition from U.S. News is just the latest resource for college-bound students to name Earlham as one of the nation’s best colleges. Last month, Forbes lauded the College as a leader for return on investment and financial strength, while The Princeton Review showcased the College’s faculty as among the nation’s finest for bringing their expertise to life.
Overall, U.S. News ranks Earlham 68th among the select 229 liberal arts colleges featured in the guide. The full rankings are available online at usnews.com/colleges.

Earlham College, a national liberal arts college located in Richmond, Indiana, is a "College That Changes Lives." We expect our students to be fully present: to think rigorously, value directness and genuineness, and actively seek insights from differing perspectives. The values we practice at Earlham are rooted in centuries of Quaker tradition, but they also constitute the ideal toolkit for contemporary success.
