Kristen Lainsbury named new vice president of marketing and communications at Earlham College

December 18, 2020

Kristen Lainsbury Headshot WEBKristen Lainsbury, an experienced higher education creative leader and former journalist, has been named vice president for marketing and communications at Earlham College.

Lainsbury has been senior director of marketing and creative services at Providence College in Rhode Island since 2015. She was previously director of marketing at Providence, and spent four years at the University of Maine as a writer and editor in the Office of University Relations. Before working in higher education, she was a feature writer and columnist at the Bangor Daily News, also in Maine.

“I am so thrilled Kristen is joining the Earlham community. She has extensive experience helping institutions of higher education reach key audiences so they can grow and thrive,” Earlham President Anne Houtman said. “She will be a terrific leader and mentor to our marketing and communications team, while unifying efforts across campus to enhance our reputation and further implement our new ‘For Good’ brand.”

She will begin at Earlham in February.

“I'm excited to join the Earlham leadership team at this pivotal time," Lainsbury said. "Equally important, I'm excited to tell the Earlham story to a broader audience.”

With Earlham’s commitment to providing transformative learning experiences that prepare students to become catalysts for good in a changing world, the world simply needs more Earlhamites, Lainsbury notes.

"Earlham prepares students to stand up to injustice. To engage in civil and informed dialogue. To envision — and then create — a better future," she said.

Lainsbury earned her Bachelor of Arts in journalism and has pursued graduate work in art history from the University of Maine. She also has participated in an executive program in innovation and strategy at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

She and her husband, Jason, have three young children.
