Calendar of events

The museum will reopen on June 4 to fully vaccinated adults and kids accompanied by a fully vaccinated caregiver. However, you can still interact with JMM through our virtual programming.

If you can’t make it to one of our events listed below, join us this summer. Admission is free!

Summer hours:

Dates: June 7, June 28, July 5 and July 26

Time: 10 a.m. – Noon

This time is reserved for activities for younger children (5 and under), storytimes, sensory activities, etc.

Dates: June 16, June 30, July 7, July 28

Time: 10 a.m. – Noon

This time is reserved for only vaccinated adults to visit the museum for those who are still wary of interaction around unvaccinated individuals.

Dates: June 17 & July 20

Time: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

This time is reserved as a date night for vaccinated adults only (18+). Engaging programming to be included, possibly escape games or other programming suitable for adults.

Calling science and museum-loving kids! This is your chance to go behind the scenes at the Joseph Moore Museum and be a museum scientist! Campers will take on the role of different museum scientists each day, exploring paleontology (fossils), herpetology (reptiles and amphibians), astronomy (using our planetarium) and field biology (identifying and tracking animals outdoors) in this week-long camp. Campers will even get to create their own exhibit to take home!

Dates:

  • June 21 – 25 for ages 6-8
  • July 12 – 16 for ages 9-12

Time: 9 a.m. – Noon

Eligibility
Masks will be required as per Earlham College campus policy. Campers from households with vaccinated adults are eligible (proof of vaccination must be provided prior to camp start).

 

What’s in the water? 

Our waterways are important to not only the health of local wildlife but to humans as well. Come explore the waterways of Earlham College’s back campus and learn how to determine the health of our local waterways. Teens can join us for a 3-hour workshop all about water quality, including water sampling and testing of local waterways. Bring your own sample from home or a favorite stream/pond to test during the workshop.

Identify that Tweet

Learn to identify birds by sight and sound, and learn some of the techniques birdwatchers use to see the unique species that call Wayne county home. Get behind-the-scenes views of Indiana’s largest bird collection and practice birding outside.  We’ll provide the binoculars and the birds!

Reptile Encounters

The best way to learn about amphibians and reptiles is from the animals themselves!  Learn about the care and keeping of reptiles and amphibians with hands-on experience with the live animals that call the JMM home in this immersive experience. We will also explore the adaptations and natural habitats of some of Richmond’s native reptiles and amphibians with our long-time herp handler, Julia Murgatroyd.
