Community Engagement Program Assistant — Center for Career and Community Engagement

Earlham College is accepting applications for the position of Community Engagement Program Assistant in the Center for Career and Community Engagement. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative faculty appointment for one year (through June 30, 2019). Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes a benefit package.
Earlham’s Center for Career and Community Engagement (CCE) seeks an energetic, creative and results-oriented individual to join the CCE team for a one-year appointment to assist in building a strong foundation for campus-wide involvement in service and community engagement and to strengthen the quality of community partnerships. The Assistant reports to the Director of Community Engagement and works collaboratively within the Center for Career and Community Engagement. Applications from recent college graduates are welcome, especially candidates who engaged in service, community-based research or other forms of community-based learning as undergraduates.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Working closely with the Director of Community Engagement and collaboratively within the Center for Career and Community Engagement (CCE), contribute to the vision, mission and implementation of community engagement across the College.
- Assume primary responsibility for supervising and mentoring the student-led Earlham Community Action Team (ECAT) in terms of leadership and skill development, event planning, budget monitoring, etc.
- In collaboration with ECAT and other departments on campus, develop community engagement programming (e.g., service learning opportunities, community-based research opportunities, and alternative service breaks) available to all students.
- Develop and deliver service leadership trainings focusing on skill development for students and community partners (e.g., event planning, fundraising and volunteer management).
- Facilitate training and reflection activities with Bonner Scholars as part of their weekly meetings as well as for other students.
- Lead periodic service trips and retreats.
- Take the lead on planning and implementation of Involvement Fairs.
- Coordinate the off-campus student employment program to fulfill the Federal Community Service Work-Study program requirement. Maintain agreements with community partners, assist students in securing positions and collaborate with Human Resources, Financial aid and CCE colleagues to promote quality and consistency in Earlham’s overall student employment program. Develop orientation for off-campus student employees and promote these students’ integration with Bonner Scholars and other Earlham volunteers at the same site.
- Market and promote community engagement opportunities via a robust web, social media and print presence. Develop outreach and program materials to communicate with students and community partners. Maintain, update and market Earlham Engage, the community engagement digital platform.
- Connect students with community and campus resources to encourage their engagement with Richmond and the surrounding area.
- Supervise student workers and interns.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to foster strong connections that help build capacity for both Earlham students and community partners.
- Participate in other activities of the Center for Career and Community Engagement and the College as a whole.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with undergraduate college students in a liberal arts setting.
- Ability to build relationships with a wide range of audiences including nonprofit partners, students, staff and faculty.
- Experience communicating with and supporting people from diverse backgrounds and an expressed commitment to uphold and further Earlham’s Diversity Aspirations Vision Statement.
- Respect for student leadership and the ability to develop and work with students as leaders.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce written reports and materials, respond to large numbers of emails, and effectively facilitate group exercises and meetings.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Availability for frequent evening and weekend work.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel and social media.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to qualify to drive Earlham vehicles by having held a license for at least two years with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience with community service, and/or experience with nonprofit management, volunteer supervision or program administration is preferred.
- Familiarity with the methods and goals of experiential education and/or service learning is preferred.
