Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty

Earlham College seeks a new Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty (VPAA). This is a full-time, 12-month administrative appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes a full benefit package.
The College’s VPAA is the chief academic officer and serves as the advocate and representative of the College’s academic program, as well as faculty interests, to both internal and external constituents. The VPAA reports directly to the President and consults with the Board of Trustees on matters of educational policy, faculty recruitment, professional development and retention.
Earlham is an independent, national liberal arts college noted for its educational quality, progressive ethos and Quaker heritage. Earlham’s diverse enrollment of 1,060 students hails from 47 states and 54 countries. The College is distinguished in the quality of its faculty, students and staff. It is a Phi Beta Kappa institution, a Peace Corps Prep college, and one of the 40 Colleges That Change Lives. Its newly launched “Epic Advantage” provides a funded internship or research experience to all undergraduates. The College has a student-faculty ratio of 9:1 and the highest endowment per student among GLCA institutions. Earlham is located in Richmond, Indiana, and is within commuting proximity to Cincinnati, Dayton, and Oxford, Ohio; and Indianapolis, Indiana.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Supporting faculty research and publication commensurate with a liberal arts college teaching load.
- Championing a robust liberal arts curriculum.
- Demonstrating a strong commitment to faculty interests.
- Lead in advocating for, and implementing, institutional strategic objectives.
- Actively participating within Earlham’s distinctive consensus government structure.
- Demonstrating genuine enthusiasm for faculty mentorship and possessing a facility for the political and operational mechanics of academic administration.
- Embracing Earlham’s Principles and Practices and being comfortable representing all aspects of the
College’s ideals, mission, culture and heritage.
Experience & Qualifications
- A terminal degree and substantial experience as a faculty member.
- A record of outstanding undergraduate teaching and notable scholarship.
- A commitment to excellence in classroom instruction, including international and experiential education.
- Experience in academic budgeting, strategic planning, committee service, and institutional accreditation and assessment practices.
- A record of success in faculty recruiting and development (including recruiting and retention of faculty members from historically underrepresented groups).
- Confidence in dynamic public speaking, with a high degree of comfort in engaging with both academic and non-academic audiences.
