Career Coach (2) — Center for Career and Community Engagement

Earlham College is looking for dynamic, intellectually curious, creative individuals with a passion for the liberal arts to join the Center for Career and Community Engagement for two open positions as a Career Coach. Applications are being accepted for this full-time, 11-month administrative faculty appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes a full-benefit package. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

The Career Coach will work directly with students, faculty and alumni to help articulate the value of the liberal arts and an Earlham education to a life well lived. The College is looking for the right person to join Earlham's team — someone with a liberal arts mindset who understands that a career is a journey, not just a job; and someone who thinks imaginatively about the purposes of education in a changing world. Although not required, we are particularly interested in candidates who have a background and expertise in business, science, technology, arts or media.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support and guide Earlham College students and alumni in seeking out meaningful job and internship opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with various campus constituents to implement the EPIC Advantage, Earlham’s new program to offer funded internships and research experiences to all students.
  • Review written materials, including resumes, curriculum vitas, cover letters and personal statements.
  • Assist students with reflecting on self-assessments and their unique major/career discernment process.
  • Conduct mock interviews and advise on job search and interview strategies.
  • Provide programming and advising for graduate school and fellowship application processes and preparation.
  • Work closely with academic departments and administrative offices to facilitate collaborative programming focused on the needs of liberal arts students.
  • Build relationships with alumni and effectively track graduate outcomes.
  • Co-develop, support and participate in collaborative programming initiatives within the Center for Career and Community Engagement.
  • Participate in Earlham College projects and serve on various college committees.
  • Represent Earlham College and the Center for Career and Community Engagement at professional conferences and professional development workshops.
  • Perform other duties as determined appropriate for the position.

Experience & Qualifications


  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Clear understanding of and passion for the liberal arts.
  • Ability to think creatively and imaginatively in a team atmosphere.
  • Strong listening, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and time management skills.
  • Excellent writing skills, including proofreading, with strong attention to detail.
  • Energy and passion for developing new relationships.
  • Self-motivation and a strong commitment to taking initiative.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to an evolving work environment.
  • Ability to flourish in a diverse, challenging community.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to drive as needed.


  • A master’s degree.
  • An educational background or previous work experience in healthcare, business, science, technology, arts or media.
  • At least one year of experience in student/career services in higher education, human resources or employment services.
  • Experience with marketing, communications (including social media), content management, webinars and/or event planning.
