The Department of History and the Department of African and African American Studies at Earlham College seek applicants for a visiting assistant professor of African American History who are well grounded in the epistemologies and ontologies of the Black experience. We invite candidates who study any time period of U.S. history, and whose work uses regional, hemispheric, and/or transnational geographic frameworks. A successful candidate will have demonstrated an interest in teaching history and in historical research methods. While Ph.D.s and ABDs in the discipline of History will be considered, we also encourage Ph.D.s and ABDs in Ethnic Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, American Studies, and other related interdisciplinary fields to apply. The teaching load is 2-3, and the pay is competitive with VAP positions at selective liberal arts colleges. The position is renewable for up to three years.
