Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese Language (3-Year Position)

Earlham College invites applications for a three-year position in the Department of Languages and Cultures atthe rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese Language and Linguistics, beginning August 2021.  

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will typically teach three courses per semester: two Japanese language courses and one linguistics course or a course in the area of his/her specialization or interest. The candidate should also expect to collaborate with the programs of Japanese Studies and Comparative Language and Linguistics.

Experience & Qualifications

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment, demonstrate highly successful skills in teaching Japanese at all levels, and specialize in language teaching, linguistics, or related fields with native or near native competency in Japanese and English. It is possible that a candidate who is ABD will be considered.A strong commitment to teaching Japanese to undergraduates is essential. In addition to language courses, the candidate must be able to teach Japanese pedagogy, sociolinguistics, and Japanese-specific sociolinguistics courses in English.
