Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology (3-year Position)

January 07, 2021

Description

The Earlham College Biology Department invites applications for a three-year visiting assistant faculty position in vertebrate physiology. The Department seeks an individual that is first and foremost excited about teaching physiology — in lecture, laboratory, and research venues — to bright and motivated undergraduates in a nationally ranked department at a small liberal arts college. This appointment would begin August 2021.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities include a human anatomy and physiology course sequence, an upper-level specialty course, and contributions to a team-taught introductory course in cell physiology. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to affiliated programs such as neuroscience and/or health sciences. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to conduct research that will actively engage our undergraduate students. Other duties will include advising students and participating in College and Department service activities.

Experience & Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Biology, Biological Sciences and/or related discipline is required. ABD candidates will also be considered. However, if finalized, they must have their PhD degree conferred at the time of hiring; teaching and post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Application Instructions

Please send a single PDF that includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of research interests that specifically addresses potential undergraduate research projects, an explicit plan detailing how you plan to interact with and teach a diverse community, and contact information for three professional references. Letters will be solicited for selected applicants directly from references at a later date.

Application materials should be sent to Chelsy Nichols, nichoch1@earlham.edu.

Review of applications will begin on Feb 8, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. Please direct questions to Lindsey McGee, mcgeeli@earlham.edu.
