Visiting Assistant Professor in Technical Direction — Theatre Arts

Earlham College seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor in Technical Direction in the Department of Theatre Arts, to begin July 1, 2020. This Technical Director will have experience in scenic and lighting design and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. This entry-level, one-year renewable position is an excellent opportunity for recent recipients of graduate degrees interested in college teaching to gain experience in our small and vibrant theatre program.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching each semester includes two 3-credit academic courses (design and script analysis) and supervising scenic, lighting and properties shop work for two applied theatre labs working with theatre arts majors and non-majors alike. Production work may include designing the lights, props and/or set of one production (as well as mentoring and supervising student designers, student employees in shops and practicum students) each semester. Additional responsibilities include overseeing set construction and paint application, light hang/focus and prop acquisition.
Experience & Qualifications
Earlham is searching for applicants with a recent design/technology MFA and/or Ph.D. emphasizing scenic design and/or lighting design, who are eager to work with young and enthusiastic theatre artists.
