Assistant Director of the Centers for Global Health and Environmental Leadership

Earlham College seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Director for the Centers of Global Health (CGH) and Environmental Leadership (CEL). These Centers are two of five interdisciplinary centers that serve as the hub of Earlham’s EPIC: the Earlham Program for an Integrated Curriculum. EPIC is an intentional approach to the four-year liberal arts journey that integrates the academic major with transformative learning experiences – including research, off-campus study, internships, and leadership development – to prepare students exceptionally well for life beyond Earlham.
The mission of the CGH is to empower students and graduates to pursue their passion for health and health careers with science excellence, cultural competence and a strong sense of service. This results in seeing themselves as change agents in their local community and in the world and is achieved through intentional programming and integrated advising. The mission of the Center for Environmental Leadership is to provide opportunities for all Earlham College students to engage with the environment in a variety of ways (volunteering, course participation, course leadership, paid positions, etc.), while also striving to develop leadership potential and career pathways for those students planning for careers in sustainability, outdoor education, and/or sustainable agriculture.
This Assistant Director will have a primary focus on student retention and recruitment. In addition, the Assistant Director will be responsible for internal and external publicity of the Centers’ programming and events and for planning and administering targeted events and programs during the academic year. The position exists at the crossroads of programming (student engagement) and student recruitment and retention at the College. This Assistant Director will work closely with and report to the Directors of the CGH and CEL.
This is a 12-month, full-time Administrative Faculty position. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes a benefit package.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate recruitment, tracking and retention efforts for the Center for Global Health and the Center for Environmental Leadership in partnership with Earlham College’s Admissions office and in consultation with the Center Directors. This will include occasional travel to regional high schools, community colleges and other off-campus sites.
- Expand and retain the CGH and CEL recruitment pool using data analytics and student tracking.
- Coordinate the development of a CGH and CEL tracking and communication process for prospective students, current students, and alumni.
- Partner with the Admissions Office to develop consistent and effective messaging to prospective students and their families and to campus guests.
- Champion and manage current CGH and CEL programming well suited for student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Partner with the Assistant Director(s) from the other EPIC Centers to streamline many of the responsibilities listed above.
- Work with and supervise student workers in collaboration with the CoLab Administrative Assistant and CoLab Project Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications
- a master’s degree in a relevant field; OR
- a bachelor’s degree and relevant professional experience.
- Experience managing programs a plus.
- Ability to communicate successfully with people from diverse backgrounds and an expressed commitment to uphold and further Earlham's Diversity Aspirations Vision Statement.
- Capacity to communicate clearly with the Center Directors, including receiving direction and feedback as well as the ability to take initiative and see projects through completion.
- Strong digital literacy skills including familiarity with social media, spreadsheets, and word processing programs. Experience tracking data to assess progress toward goals a plus.
- Extraordinary attention to detail and strong listening, verbal, presentation, and time-management skills.
- Robust affinity with the purposes and value of a liberal arts education.
