Update on Earlham Football

October 18, 2019

The Board of Trustees accepted President Anne Houtman’s recommendation that the football program remain suspended for at least the next two years. In discussing the program, the president underscored a key takeaway from a report prepared by the Football Review Committee: that if the football program returns, it must be supported with an “all-in” effort from all areas of the College. The president and trustees are committed to offering a robust program in intercollegiate athletics. Given the College’s ongoing financial concerns, however, neither the president nor the Board believe that this is an appropriate time to restart the football program.

Earlham College, an independent, residential college, aspires to provide the highest-quality undergraduate education in the liberal arts and sciences, shaped by the distinctive perspectives of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
