Register for open auditions!  About the playThe King of Navarre and his friends make a pact to get serious about their studies.  But when the Princess of France and her friends arrive for a diplomatic visit\, romantic distractions prevail.  The students try to reason their way out of temptation but poetry and pranks challenge an over-serious academy with humor and youthful impulses.  The heart and the head aren’t too far apart as the pleasures of summer come to an end and these young adults choose which moments to cherish and what follies to leave behind.   PerformancesNovember 10\, 11 & 12   at 7:30pm\nWilkinson Theatre\nRunning Time: aprx. 2 hours.   Casting criteriaThere are roles for 15 actors of all gender identities\, racial and ethnic backgrounds\, body types\, abilities\, ages\, and experience levels. Manages a tough situation with wit   The Princess; Friends and Attendants:ROSALINE\, witty & intelligent\, refuses to be impressed by Berowne’s professions of love\nMARIA\, met Longaville at a family wedding and liked him: sees him for what he is\nKATHERINE\, quick witted as Rosaline\, recognizes Dumaine has some growing up to do\nBOYET\, a gossipy chaperone and counselor attending the members of the French Court\nARMADO\, committed to studies\, braggart\, thinks self finer than he is\, obsessed with Jaquenetta\nJAQUENETTA\, a simple\, honest\, accomplished gardener\, pregnant with Armado’s child\nCOSTARD\, illiterate local\, witty word lover\, works at the castle\, attracted to Jaqunetta\nDULL\, local constable\, plain-spoken\, blunt – admits to not understanding high language\nHOLOFERNES\, the professor/schoolmaster.  A snooty linguistic perscriptivist.\nNATHANIEL\, the curate\, impressed by higher education – respects Holofernes. Audition preparationPrepare a one-minute monologue (your choice or an excerpt from the show).  You will also be asked to read at least one scene from the show.  A link to monologues from the show and scenes that will be read is available at the bottom of the form you will fill out when you make an audition appointment.  Hard copies will be available at the audition. SUMMARY:Artist & Lecture Series Presents Yumi Kurosawa
DESCRIPTION:An inventive\, seemingly cosmopolitan composer mesmerizing audiences on the 20-string koto. Yumi Kurosawa is an award-winning koto star from a young age\, one of today’s most exciting soloists on Japan’s national instrument. Her solo repertoire includes classical Japanese compositions\, as well as her own innovative and enchanting original works. She has played on such stages as Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, the Apollo Theater\, and the Blue Note. Kurosawa has been a principal soloist with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra\, the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra\, the Orchestra of the Swan in the UK\, and the Houston Grand Opera. In 2015\, she was commissioned to write an original score for the Houston Ballet. This past season saw their debut tour\, and they dazzled audiences at Bucknell University\, Eastman School of Music\, Reston Community Center\, and the University of Vermont. The National Gallery of Art had also commissioned Kurosawa to create a piece especially for their exhibition “The Life of Animals in Japanese Art.” “Yumi Kurosawa was mesmerizing on the 20-string koto.” Zachary Woolfe\, The New York Times. SUMMARY:Artist & Lecture Series Presents Dr. Cornel West
DESCRIPTION:Join Earlham College as they welcome Dr. Cornel West to discuss “The Sublime Legacy of Toni Morrison.” Cornel West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual. Dr. Cornel West is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary. Dr. West teaches on the works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and courses in Philosophy of Religion\, African American Critical Thought\, and a wide range of subjects –including but by no means limited to the classics\, philosophy\, politics\, cultural theory\, literature\, and music. He is best known for his classics\, Race Matters and Democracy Matters\, and for his memoir\, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud. Black Prophetic Fire’s most recent book offers an unflinching look at nineteenth and twentieth-century African American leaders and their visionary legacies. Dr. West is a frequent guest on the Bill Maher Show\, CNN\, C-Span\, and Democracy Now. Dr. West has a passion for communicating to a wide variety of publics to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King\, Jr. – a legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice.
