My main interest is language, although in my free time I also enjoy listening to music and watching/playing video games. I love looking at how languages work, and hope to become well versed in many throughout my life. I had originally planned to do the Comparative Languages and Linguistics major, but I became very enamored with the Japanese language when I began formally studying it, and decided to make that my focus instead. I am also an amateur composer and arranger, and have dreams to make a game of my own someday.
This summer, I am most looking forward to the immersive language experience that being in Japan will provide me. Of reading, writing, and speaking, speaking is definitely the most difficult part of language for me, and so I am confident I will learn a lot from my time there. In addition to language, I am also eagerly anticipating the cultural learning opportunities I will have. I plan to visit as many interesting places and participate in as many fun activities as I can manage.
In terms of goals, I would like to come away from this internship with a better knowledge of the Japanese language first and foremost, not just in terms of grammar and vocabulary but also with regard to situational knowledge (what to say and when). In addition to that, I will be striving to make as many business connections as I can. I have no idea what the future holds for me, but having been given this rare opportunity, I want to see how far I can expand my horizons.
My main hope for this internship is that I can be a responsible and helpful intern of Good Neighbors International while I am there. I truly believe that the work they are doing is important, and I want to help in whatever way I can to further their goals. Additionally, I think this internship will be a great chance for me to grow as a person, and I hope to be wiser and better equipped for the future at the end of it.
