Bay Erickson '18

My name is Bay Erickson. I am now a Junior at Earlham College, and my major is Japanese Studies with a focus in language and linguistics. I am interested in editing and proofreading English as well as Japanese, along with interpretation and translation. I am also very interested in advocacy and learning about LGBT rights in Japan. I am very interested in going to Japan and studying the Ainu culture on my internship in Shiraoi, Hokkaido, as well as spending some time in Tokyo before my internship starts, in order to get a feel for Japan and its culture. While in Japan, I am aiming to improve my Japanese language skills, as well as my communication and editing skills, and to receive an experience of what it is like to be in an official workplace. By participating in this internship, I hope to gain insight into the Ainu culture, make lasting connections with the workers at the Shiraoi Ainu Museum, and improve my Japanese skills.
