The Health Externship program is designed to allow Earlham students to integrate into the wider Wayne County area and volunteer or job shadow with health care providers. Students who are interested in the pre-health field can find either a volunteer or job shadowing opportunity in numerous medical/clinical settings including pre-veterinary with Animal Care Alliance, pre-physical therapy with Cutting Edge Physical Therapy, or pre-medicine with Reid Health as well as many other providers. The placements can be personalized to best suit student interests and career discernment. Since the inauguration of the program in 2015, students have completed more than 5,000 volunteering/job shadowing hours.

Earlham College, an independent, residential college, aspires to provide the highest-quality undergraduate education in the liberal arts and sciences, shaped by the distinctive perspectives of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
