On Saturday, April 26th, the student team Gateway Restoration and Foundation received first place in the final round of the 2020 Earlham EPIC Grand Challenge. Gateway Restoration and Foundation took home $10,000 to further their project, which works towards providing affordable home renovation and lawn care to improve quality of life and property values within Wayne County, Indiana. The managing team includes Nathan Mynatt (Global Management, EC ’20), Austin Green (Global Management, EC ’20), Marc Gendreau (Global Management, EC ’21), Brian Pincura (Global Management, EC ’21), and Kayla Newman (Global Management, EC ’22). The team's project truly embodies this year’s theme of the Earlham EPIC Grand Challenge by working to improve the lives of 25,000 Wayne County residents by the year 2025. The Earlham EPIC Grand Challenge was made possible by and in collaborating with the Wayne County Foundation.
The Earlham EPIC Grand Challenge in partnership with Forward Wayne County is a new initiative with a focus on helping solve issues within Wayne County, Indiana. The campus competition round have concluded for the Hult Prize 2020, the worlds largest student competition for social good! The challenge for each team involved is to "build bold businesses that (1) have a positive net impact on the environment with every sale completed, dollar earned, and decision made and (2) reach no fewer than a million consumers within a decade." Each team that competes has the chance of winning $1 million in start-up capital to launch their world-changing social venture.On Thursday, December 5th, 2019 team Harvest (Justin DeGraff ’23, Ruslan Dominic ´23, Austin Burt ´22, and Charles Ces ´20) won the on-campus round and will go on to represent Earlham at the regional level competition.
