August Programs

What are the August Programs?

August Programs are a great way for students to jumpstart their college career. Taking place before New Student Orientation, these pre-orientation programs offer early arrival to campus, early interaction with Earlham faculty members and student mentors, and the chance to become familiarized with the Earlham campus and the Richmond community.

Incoming first-year and transfer students can participate in either August Wilderness or Earlham Edge.

August Wilderness

August Wilderness is a backcountry wilderness adventure that promotes introspection and personal development during the transition to college. The Mountain program takes students to the Uinta Mountains in Utah and involves backpacking in elevations ranging from 8,500 - 12,000 feet. This trip is led by student and faculty instructors who aim to facilitate an experience that encourages growth, self-discovery, and learning. Participants can earn three academic credits.
