Thomas A. Gottschalk ’64 practices law as “of counsel” with the Kirkland and Ellis law firm in its Washington, D.C., office. Until his retirement in March 2007, he was executive vice president for law and public policy at General Motors Corporation, which he joined in August 1994 as senior vice president and general counsel. Before his work at General Motors, Thomas was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, where he began practicing law after graduating from the University of Chicago Law School in 1967. He is former Chair of the Board of Earlham Trustees (1985-1991) and currently is also a trustee of American University in Washington, D.C.  He and his wife, Barbara Jean Risen Gottschalk ’64, live in Washington and are the parents of two daughters.
