The Student Handbook is an educational resource that includes policies, procedures, descriptions of student organizations, college offices and phone numbers. The Handbook is organized around five co-curricular learning goals which are designed to shape your out-of-classroom experiences:
- Living in Community
- Diversity and Difference
- Faith, Service and Vocation
- Engagement and Leadership
- Wellness and Athletics
We encourage you to examine the descriptions of the student organizations and become involved in the campus community. We want you to be part of the Earlham College family and make the campus your home away from home. Principles and Practices (P&P) is Earlham’s foundational statement of our values, beliefs and out expectations of how we live in community. Please read become familiar with P&P.
We welcome you; wish you a successful year and an especially memorable year for our seniors. It is our goal to support you as discover and share your many gifts and talents that will enhance Earlham for everyone.
Last semester, the Student Senate agreed to transition their regular business meeting to Monday evenings, allowing their standing meeting time to open up. Wednesdays at 1pm, on weeks when Convocation is not scheduled, will now be dedicated for All-Student Forums. These forums will be open to the entire community and we hope to invite many faculty and administrators as guests to speak to a full-range of college issues that the community would like addressed. If you would like be involved in organizing these events and having a special and significant voice on campus issues, we recommend that you join the Student Senate!
Any student can apply to be a part of Earlham Student Government (ESG) regardless of class year or interests. You will find opportunities to represent an organization you are a part of, a committee that you serve on, or a residence hall that you live in. There are even at-large spots for students who aren’t able participate otherwise. Once appointed to the Student Senate, you will have an equal voice in the consensus process. Our meetings operate under Quaker standards; a clerk facilitates the meeting, and all decisions require consensus to be approved. If you are interested in student leadership, this is a truly valuable and unique opportunity to be a part of a decision-making body at Earlham.
If you do not have the time to commit to regular Student Senate meetings, ESG can help you. If you have a project or an idea, the Student Senate is a great place to come for funding requests or proposals. If you are a member of a standing committee, you are welcome to present ideas your committee is considering and hear student feedback. Our meetings are always open to all interested observers.

Earlham College publishes two basic handbooks that provide essential information to students about the College's programs, policies, resources and services.
- The Curriculum Guide details academic polices, requirements and opportunities within the curriculum. Expectations for the major, minor and degree requirements are presented in this format. It also includes a listing of faculty, the academic calendar and descriptions of curricular resources such as our libraries, informational technology and student services. Copies of the Curriculum Guide are available in the Registrar's Office.
- The Student Handbook is a resource for living in community. It includes important community and Residence Life policies, descriptions of the services provided by various College offices and other useful information about life on campus. Copies of the Student Handbook are available in the Student Development Office.
Updated regularly online, both the Curriculum Guide and the Student Handbook refer to many documents that are on the Earlham website in their complete, authoritative and most up-to-date form.
It is the responsibility of every student, faculty and staff member to read the Student Handbook and Curriculum Guide and be responsible for knowing the information contained within.
