Earlham offers two distinct programs for study abroad in Japan, both of which include home stays and many opportunities for students to broaden their interest in and knowledge of Japan and the Japanese language.
- The Japan Study program is based at Waseda University in Tokyo, in the School of International Liberal Studies. The experience can be for one semester or yearlong.
- The one-semester Studies in Cross Cultural Education (SICE) program is based in Morioka, and places students in junior high schools as assistant English teachers. Students also take university classes at Iwate University.
Many colleges offer study abroad programs in Japan, but increasingly schools are turning to third-party providers for their study abroad options. Earlham's programs in Japan, however, continue to be managed by Earlham faculty and staff.
