Receive Credit for Internships

Internships eligible for credit may be done during any semester, or during the summer; some students do mini-internships during winter break. In order for your internship to appear on your Earlham transcript, whether or not you wish to receive academic credit for it, you must submit a petition form.

Step 1: Plan for Your Internship

Before completing a petition be sure to consult with both your faculty advisor and internship site supervisor regarding:

  • the nature of your internship
  • relevant readings
  • process of evaluation
  • and other criteria listed on the petition form.

Use the petition form questions, available here online or at the Registrar's Office, to guide your consultation.

Step 2: Submit a Petition with Supporting Materials to the Registrar's Office

Based on the information you have gathered, complete a petition form and collect supporting materials. The deadlines for submitting petitions are as follows:

For internships occuring during the fall semester,

  • Your petition is due before the end of registration for fall semester classes.
  • Credit for the internship will appear on your transcript for the fall semester.

For internships occuring during the spring semester,

  • Your petition is due before the end of registration for spring semester classes.
  • Credit for the internship will appear on your transcript for the spring semester.

For internships occuring during the summer,

  • Your petition is due during the registration period for fall classes that happens at the end of spring semester.
  • You should not wait until after the internship and the beginning of fall classes when registration reopens.
  • Credit for the internship will appear on your transcript for the fall semester.

These deadlines are also reflected in the following table:
